ISS partners with governments and other civil society organisations to build knowledge and skills to enhance human security and achieve sustainable peace and prosperity in Africa. In South Africa they have been undertaking detailed research and analysis on understanding how to reduce violence, crime and corruption and improving the criminal justice system since 1996. The core work of the Justice and Violence Prevention Programme focusses on (a) promoting police professionalism and accountability and (b) enhancing an understanding of violence and violence prevention.
